Want to know how to clicker train a dog? Well, there is no “right” way to do it but there are dog training tricks that can help you along the way. These dog training tricks can either be part of your dog training regime or you can use them after you have got your dog under control. Dog clicker training is tiny, easy, plastic toys that creates a small clicking sound when you push them.
This dog training trick is useful in training your dog to follow a few simple steps. It is also useful for showing your dog what happens when he fails to follow the steps. You begin by presenting the treats in front of him and standing far away. Then, say the word “step” in a firm voice while holding the treats in front of him. Do this until he follows the steps.
This dog training trick teaches him to walk up to a chair by simply looking at it and saying the word chair when he sees it. He will then proceed to sit down in the chair by looking at it, hearing the word chair and saying the word follow when he sees the treat. Hold the treats above his head and say the word stay after he has followed the steps. This is a five-step process.
The second dog training trick is to learn to match one particular object with a specific verbal cue. To train your dog to match an object with a specific sound, begin by placing the treat on a surface that your dog can reach. Say the word sit, over until he has learned to respond to it. As he responds to the cues repeated, reward him by giving him the treat and telling him he is a good boy.
This dog training exercise is easy to do and does not take long to get started. Just as with the first dog training exercise, you begin by stating the word sit over. When he responds correctly, give him the treat and praise him. Once he gets it, then you move up to two steps, three steps and eventually five step procedures where you say the word stay, sit, come, heel and repeat.
This dog training trick begins by beginning in a quiet room. Tell him to sit and then give him the treat. If he stays in place while you repeat the command, give him the treat and praise him. If he runs off to the next room, then ignore him and he will soon forget what you said because he won’t be concentrating on the command go.
To make this dog training trick easier, set the dog free by saying your command and allowing him to wander around and then immediately tell him to return to you and give him the treat. Repeat this exercise several times until he gets it. Another way to help him remember the command is to use a bell or clicker to give him a treat each time he performs a correct step. For example, if he goes to the sitting position, clap your hands or say your command quietly while you slowly give him a treat. You can also give him the treat after he reaches one step. If he gets it, give him the treat and praise him.
A clicker is an electronic device that makes a “click” noise when pressed. Clickers are easy to use because they have a range of about 30 feet from the dog, and they are waterproof so that they are useful even if your dog decides to take a swim. Start by teaching your dog to keep his paws on the ground by using your clicker as soon as he has started to understand that the sound indicates that he has performed the right steps. It’s important that you always reward your dog for doing good behavior. You don’t want him to get discouraged because he won’t be getting treats every time he performs the right behaviors.
