Teaching your dog how to sit can be a bit challenging because of their naturally shy nature. Many people have no clue as to how to go about teaching their dog the dog training tricks that are important for the dog training tips. In this article I’m going to give you a couple dog training tips that will help you with teaching your dog how to sit.
The first dog training trick we’re going to cover is ‘put it down’. This dog training trick is very easy to teach, all you have to do is tell your dog where they should sit, and they should sit. Sit is just simply sit down in the appropriate spot you set them and do not leave them until they release them, place is to stand on the designated spot (Rock, shelf, piece of wood, cooler), you should never leave them in a spot for longer than 10 seconds because that is too long of a time for a dog to stay in suspense. Once you see that your dog has sat down, tell them ‘Good boy’ and give them a treat. Repeat this exercise over again until your dog knows the sitting down command.
The second dog training tricks we’re going to cover is ‘stay’. If you’re going to teach them how to stay you must understand one thing, your dog will not learn how to stay if you don’t actually teach them to stay. The reason you want to teach your dog to stay is so you can use the dog training tricks that will increase his confidence and obedience, like the sit command. You want your dog to know that if you move and make noise they must stay where they are, this way you can catch them when they have gotten into something and get it over with without any issues.
You should start the training by taking your dog’s hand and placing it under his chest with his back facing you. You should then say ‘Stay’, repeat it a few times until he understands what you’re asking of him. It may take several tries for him to understand, but the important thing to remember is that he will need to stay until you say it, no matter what happens. Eventually he will get it.
During the dog-training exercise you should begin training your dog using the sit and stay commands. Begin by taking your dog’s hand and placing it under his chest with his back facing you. You should then say ‘Sit’, then take your dog’s leash and guide him to sit. Continue this process until you see that he has stopped moving his legs, then you should begin the leash training.
During this phase you should begin to slowly move the leash forward and back, asking your dog each time if he can sit. As he responds to the command, you should reward your dog with praise or a treat. Do this consistently until he understands the concept. At first you should use treats as much as you can, but as your dog responds to the praise, you can reduce the treats. This will give him more confidence and eventually you can remove the treats until the dog is able to sit without the assistance of the leash.
Now it is time to introduce the ‘come’ command. Begin by placing your dog’s leg at the front, keeping one hand behind his back. Then in a calm voice, say’Come’. You dog should start to come forward, but you should avoid putting your dog’s leg down until he has come to a normal and happy pace. This will keep him from fearing you, and you will be able to control him in this area.
You should take your dog through an area in which you would typically walk and ask him to follow you. If he shows no signs of moving forward, stay where you are and gently guide him with the leash, making sure that you do not put your dog’s leg down. Reward your dog with praise or a treat when he reaches the end of the leash. Continue this process over until you have trained your dog completely. Training a dog in this way is not very difficult, and it is a very effective way to train a dog where you can both walk and enjoy the outdoors.
