Dogs by nature are extremely friendly and are naturally attracted to people they like, so you can use this to your advantage when training your dog to be obedient. Dogs respond better to positive reinforcement rather than punishment. In this article, I will discuss dog training tricks which can help you create a more positive training environment for your dog. Positively obedient dogs are a term which is becoming gaining popularity in recent years among dog training professionals.
The list below contains dog training tricks which can be used to teach your dog to be obedient. Some of these tricks may seem a bit basic, but as your dog progresses through its obedience training, they will become easier and your dog will enjoy learning them. In fact, many dog training tricks today are no longer used completely, but some are used more sparingly to develop the obedience of the dog.
Positively obedient dog training tricks involve teaching your dog to sit, lie down, and stay. These are all sub-types of the sit, lie down, and stay commands which are used to teach your dog how to behave properly in these three specific commands. These are the basic commands which are taught from day one of your dog training, so make sure you get these dog training tricks right the first time around. As your dog gets older, you can start to introduce more positive dog training tricks into your dog’s training sessions. One trick that worked for me, is to say “sit” to my dog then give it a treat. This will encourage your dog to sit whenever it is called.
Another one of the dog training tricks which worked well, is to have the dog walk behind me on a leash. At first I would walk alongside the dog and lead it ahead slowly until it was close enough to sit beside me. Once the dog was close enough, I would say “stay” and then turn towards the dog and say “sit” in a firm voice. I could then say “okay”. I was only using the leash for dog training tricks here – to keep the dog close to me and to teach it obedience commands. I never tried to restrain the dog!
The dog training tricks here included using treats to encourage the dog to sit. I would also occasionally use a toy or a treat to reward good behavior. I also found it helpful to move the dog onto a different leash regularly so that it had to work harder to reach out for the treat! Be careful though – if you make your dog too aggressive it could end up biting you or causing more problems.
A few dog training tricks that I used regularly when I trained my dog, was calling out “sit” or “come” when the dog was close to me. This meant that I could stop whatever I was doing and lead the dog over to where I was. I also found it helpful to shout “sit” or “come” at the dog as the dog approached. It may not have been completely effective but it worked on the dog’s subconscious to always come when called.
Of course, there were many dog training tricks that I never tried. Some of them involved having to pull, push or strain heavily on the leash. This could be quite damaging to dog’s neck and ribs! I certainly do not recommend trying them!
However, there are many dog training tricks that I have tried over the years. They have really helped my dog to be more obedient. If you want to learn how to train your dog effectively and in no time at all, why not try some dog training tricks. I guarantee you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. I am sure you will also be more motivated to train your dog effectively.
