Teaching your dog how to be a Frisbee can really be super fun. You could even train your dog how to catch a Frisbee in order to improve its health or even to compete with it. Either way Frisbee training can really be a lot of fun for you and your dog! It is also really fun for you!
The first five things that you have to keep in mind when you start dog training are to make sure that the Frisbee is safe, the pup will get plenty of exercise and food, and you need to reward them with praise or a treat for being good. If you remember these basic rules then you should have no problem. The first thing to do is to choose a safe location where you can leave your Frisbee. Keep away from trees and power lines.
After you find your ideal spot the next step is to locate your pup. Find something comfortable to stand on such as grass or a carpet. Start by taking your dog through the park and practicing his obedience commands. If you are having difficulty with training your dog or just want some help getting him to understand commands then you should read the following tips below which may help. They are in order of importance:
The first thing you need to do is to figure out exactly what type of tricks your dog likes to do. You can get help from an online library of dog training tricks, or you can go to dog training classes. Whatever you choose I highly recommend going to dog training classes as you will probably pick up some tricks that you never tried. This is an invaluable experience as it teaches you how to teach a Frisbee and gives you experience for the future.
Next you should start with teaching your dog how to use the training disc. These discs come in two speeds; slow and fast. When learning how to teach a Frisbee with Frisbees you should mainly focus on the fast speed discs as they have more weight and will throw further. If you choose slow discs, you won’t be able to get your pup under the weight. That is why you should start off with slow growth plates.
Start by giving your dog a snack and letting him know that the discs are for the bite training only. Every time he successfully bites on the disc, give him a treat and praise him. Eventually he will learn that the only way to get his bite is to stop eating. Continue this until he doesn’t need the treats anymore. Continue this until he doesn’t need the snacks anymore. You should be monitoring his behavior from time to time so if he still doesn’t understand what you’re trying to teach him, you can try another method.
After he’s mastered the bite-time training, the next step is to teach him where the dog park is. You should put a dog park sign up where your puppy can go. Make sure you post it clear that dogs are allowed to go there every day, this will help encourage your pup to go there on his own. Once he goes every day you can then reward your pup for going in the designated area every time he returns home from training.
Finally, you should have a playpen or a tunnel in which your pup can go through and roll the Frisbee disc back through the tunnel. You should set up the playpen in a corner of the yard, away from the other houses or anywhere that is out of the way. Start by putting the Frisbee in the tunnel and giving him lots of praise. Each time he rolls the disc back through the tunnel to reward him with a treat. As long as your pup understands that when you say ‘roll the Frisbee’ you are telling him to go get the disc back through the tunnel and you will need to stay in one spot the entire time he is training. After several days you should see the progress being made.
