You should be able to think quickly on your feet in order to work with your dog.
If you want to train your dog properly, then you need to make sure that he understands what you expect of him. Teaching him several commands at the same time is much more effective than teaching him one command after the other. You should reward your dog when he does a good job. Start by placing your palm flat on the floor several times and saying “sit”. Your dog should then sit calmly. Keep repeating the word until he understands what you are asking him to do.

He will wait for you to give him the treat and he will go ahead and take the dog treat. When he is able to recognize the word go hurry each time, you can start to vary the speed of your voice when you use the word go hurry.

Once he understands that you are pleased with him and you want him to please you, he will usually start to do the task at your command. If he does not understand what you want, repeat the command until you are satisfied with him. Reward with a treat, and if he tries to escape try to distract him until you come back to him and praise him again.
