Teaching your dog to sit can be a challenge for dog owners. However, if you have a dedicated dog training staff and follow some basic dog training tips, teaching your dog how to sit should be an easy task. Keep in mind that your dog is learning while you are learning and it is important to make the process fun and exciting. This article provides some simple, effective tips to help teach your dog to lie down.
How To Teach A Dachshund To Lie Down: Make sure your dog stays on all the time. Place a treat high up in the tree above your dog training treats. As your dog begins to lie down, call his name and offer him the dog training treats. Reward your dog for lying down.
How To Train A Dachshund To Stay: After calling his name, offer him a treat. When he sits, step forward with your leg and place your foot near his hind end. The dog will naturally begin to look around for your leg. Step back, making sure your dog’s front feet are directly on the ground and he has his attention focused on you. The next step is to offer your dog another treat.
This next step is critical. Start by making sure your dog’s nose is directly under the command to sit. Have your dog sit and look towards you. At this point, your dog will be looking toward you for the rest of the command. This will require that your dog’s nose is pointed into your chest cavity.
Next, repeat the previous exercise but this time to offer your dog the command to sit, then step back as far as you’ll be able and offer him a treat. Repeat this exercise for about 20 minutes per session. You can increase the amount of time you spend on each command by simply increasing the number of times you say the word. Eventually, you’ll be able to offer your pup the command to sit and look directly at you for the whole session.
How To Teach A Dachshund To Lay Down Properly: Your final tip is to practice proper behavior when it comes to lying down. When you practice good behavior, it will become natural for your dog. If you start out by offering your dog treats as you gently guide him towards the appropriate spot, he’ll learn to lie down with his bottom on the ground. In order to teach your dog the “down” command, hold a treat above his head and then position his hindquarters on the edge of the treats. When your pup climbs onto the treats, give him the command to lie down and lift his rear up on his front paws.
If your dog tries to stand while doing this, ignore him. Place a loose dog lure (the type you use to attract a duck or other game bird) in front of the open space you’ve created. Start by holding the loose lure level with your chest so that your dog’s hind quarters are even with the lure. Then, make a verbal cue to guide your dog to his best position.
Repeat this process until your dog is consistently standing with his back to you. After about 10 minutes of practice, you’ll be able to get your dog to lie down on command without saying a word. To increase the odds that your pup will actually lie down and stay there, you should reward him with praise every time. Praise him for staying still, moving to the square if he needs to, and for the first down. Once he has mastered this task, you can begin to work on getting him to lie down with both paws on the ground whenever you place the loose lure within easy reach.
