The older dog urinating in house constantly is not at all uncommon. It happens to many older dogs too. In fact, older dogs have their own special way of telling you that they are unhappy with you – sad, lonely, dissatisfied and sick inside. Often times this means they need some time away from you, and just the fact that your dog is older and out of shape is enough to send him into his shell and make him urinate on the floor or in corners. There are some dog training tricks that can be used to change this undesirable habit quickly and effectively.
Before anything else, get the dog checked out. Some common signs include excess thirst, urination that doesn’t seem to come naturally and blood in the urine. When the switch in urinary habits is combined with an increased urination and drinking, an urgent work up needs to be done. Blood test results should be obtained from the dog’s vitals because the results from the urinalysis don’t always show significant levels of blood. Diabetes, kidney problems, hypothyroidism, hyperadrenocorticism, diabetes mellitus and other ailments can all contribute to an increased urination and drinking as well.
Once you’ve confirmed these problems with your dog’s urogenital health, find out exactly where the problem is originating from. A simple blood test will tell you if there is a hormonal imbalance, which may be the culprit. If so, it is then time to use dog products designed to balance out that hormonal imbalance.
If the cause seems to be a urinary tract infection, or any kind of infections, it is very important that your dog get treated right away. Antibiotics help to kill off bacteria. In many cases, the infections that originate in the bladder end up spreading to the kidneys, ureters and bladder. Other types of infections include ones that are caused by parasites or yeast. All of these require medical attention.
If your dog has a problem with urination at night while sleeping, there are a few things that you can try. The first is just to give your dog some cranberry juice. Cranberry juice contains a chemical called bromelain, which can prevent bacteria from sticking to the bladder and urethra. This is a fairly inexpensive treatment for an older dog urinating at night.
You can give your dog a special commercial product called BPA free. This is made from purified recycled plastic bottles and is safe for both dogs and humans. This product helps to prevent blockage and thus the dog urinating at night. However, this product has not been very effective for dogs that urinate during the day.
In some cases, surgery may be needed. If your dog urinates frequently, surgery may be your only option. One surgical procedure has proven very successful. This procedure uses a laser to help dissolve the animal’s urine. Once the urine has been dissolved, the dog urinating at night can go home and be comforted that he or she will not urinate in the house. This method is very effective for dogs that tend to urinate either on command or have an accident, but are still very sensitive to smell their owner.
There are a few home remedies that your dog can try to relieve him or herself of the problem. One easy way to relieve your dog urinating at night is to mix a little salt and water together. This mixture can be sprayed directly on the area. The dog will urinate, and then the salt and water solution will rinse right out of it. If this doesn’t work, try something stronger such as baking soda. However, if you have tried everything else and nothing has worked, your veterinarian is probably the best person for advice when it comes to your dog’s health.
