“Train Aggressive Dog” by Travis Stoetzel has been getting rave reviews from the dog lover community for it’s ability to effectively and efficiently deal with aggressive canine behavior problems. In my opinion, if you are looking for a solid resource that can show you the correct way of doing things in an effective manner, this is it. I have personally tried several other dog training books, DVDs and programs in the past, and this is by far the best one so far. Even if you have previous knowledge of dog training and have been doing some tweaking on your own, this is all you’ll need with this resource. I highly recommend it.
Travis Stoetzel is a former dog trainer and professional dog behaviorist who is now the president of Train Aggressive and creator of the dog training tips and techniques in this program. He lives in California and breathes exercise, fitness and all things physical and dedicated to helping turn you into an all around, powerful, conditioned and focused BOSS both in and outside the gym. The main thrust of his work is geared towards dog behaviors that lead to aggression or harmful dog behaviors such as barking, biting, chasing and general nuisance. He has done extensive research on the subject and has put together some of the most cutting edge, tested and true information on how to break these dog behaviors down and keep them from ever happening again. I highly recommend his material.
If you think about it, most dog owners do not really take the time to train their dog to stop aggressive dog behaviors, even though it is something that is required by law and should be done as well. Some of these dog owners have simply given up on their dogs, turned the dogs loose in the neighborhood, and let them loose. This is actually a primary cause for aggression towards people in the neighborhood and other pets. So, if you are thinking of having a dog, one of the first considerations should be whether or not you have a way to effectively train your dog to know when it is appropriate to snap or bite the leash. The great thing about this program is that all the information is presented in a simple to understand format that you can easily review and apply at your own pace.
The second tip deals with the use of a positive reinforcement system to train your dogs. Positive reinforcement is a type of training where the dog is rewarded with something positive for following good behaviors. A prime example of this would be using a treats bag instead of a treat for correct behavior. You would then use the treats so that the dogs know that it is a reward for being a good dog and they will continue to be good dogs and not behave badly. You would do this for a couple weeks or months depending on the severity of your dog’s problem behaviors.
The third tip deals with the importance of dog training gear. I believe that if you want your dogs to become aggressive, you need to have the necessary tools to make it happen. Dog training gear can easily be found at your local pet supply store. Once again, these stores are very inexpensive and will last a lifetime. In addition, I believe that this gear should always be used and never taken for granted.
The fourth tip is to establish dominance by using the dominant hand. This can be done easily in the form of pulling on the leash while walking your dog. This action will establish dominance by demonstrating to your dog that he is the leader of your pack. To pull on the leash, I suggest that you do it from a position that is comfortable for both of you. If you are comfortable pulling on the leash while standing then you can do this in a push mode.
The fifth and final tip is to identify the aggressive behavior that triggers the aggressive response in your dog. Your goal should be to train your dog to recognize that particular aggressive behavior and then respond in a way that shows you that you are in charge and not him. I recommend trying to get your dog to understand that he is in control of his aggressive response rather than you being in control of your dog. You can easily do this by using the k9 basics that I mentioned above.
Remember, dog aggression can be learned. The five simple tips in this article will help you build a foundation and teach your dog what behaviors are appropriate and unacceptable. With that said, always remember that you need to be firm with him and reinforce the good behaviors while correcting the bad behaviors. Remember that there will always be bad behaviors so just learn to enjoy the dog aggression!
