Teaching your dog basic commands like sit, stay, come and close is one of the most basic dog training tips that every dog owner should know. However, when you want to teach your dog these commands quickly and easily, it can be frustrating if you do not know how to teach them properly. However, it does not have to be complicated or take much time to teach your dog these simple commands. In fact, teaching them can be as easy as five minutes.
Teaching your dog with simple and short dog training tricks can teach them the basic commands. Some dog training tricks include “down” command and “stay” command. By giving them these simple dog training tricks, your dog will learn that these are the only two words that they should use when you tell them to do something. They will also learn that these words are stronger than other words that dogs use such as “sit”.
If you are new to dog training tricks, it may be best for you to first use one of the longer dog training tricks that will give your dog the idea that there are several ways of saying the word “down”. Once you have learned this word, you can start to teach your dog the word “stay”. You can also teach your dog the word “come” by giving them a treat after every successful completion of the command.
To teach “down” or “stay” using dog training tricks, you will need to start by taking your dog outside and telling them to sit or lie down. As soon as they sit or lie down, give them a treat. Then tell them to move their legs, and continue to give them a treat until they stand up. By repeating this exercise about four times, you dog should soon understand that they will get a treat when they move their legs.
After your dog understands the word “stay” or “down”, you can begin to use dog training tricks that will teach him to come when called. Again, before you begin, it is important that your dog learn the word “down” or “stay” first. Then when he hears the word said, he should move towards the treat. You can also train him to jump through a hoop or a crate.
A dog training trick that many people enjoy using when teaching their dog how to come is the “step-on-step off”. This is performed by making circles with your dog on your floor, while saying “step on” in a firm voice. Your dog should then move forward on your command, until he reaches the same place that you had when he started out – at your feet! When he gets to the spot you had him in, give him the treat and praise him. Repeat this several times, until your dog understands how to come when called.
If you are having a hard time getting your dog to come when called, or if your dog doesn’t seem to understand what you are asking him to do, you may need to use a clicker to teach him the behavior. The clicker symbolizes that the dog performed the behavior correctly. Once your dog has learned that the sound of the click is associated with the proper behavior, you can use verbal commands along with the clicker to reinforce that behavior. You can do this for all of your dog training tricks, since it is a great way to keep your dog motivated and focused.
One other trick that you can teach your dog when learning how to teach down to a dog is how to take turns with him. When you and your dog are outdoors, each of you can put on a different dog training trick to entertain the dog. For example, if you and your dog have a favorite game of hide and seek, you can take turns hiding treats in different locations throughout your yard, while your dog seeks out the treats. This is an excellent way for two people to spend quality time together, while teaching your dog tricks that will serve him well for many years.
